SNES Classic Edition - The Games That Should Be Included

SNES Classic Edition - The Games That Should Be Included

One of the highly discussed products launching from Nintendo this quarter is the NES Classic Edition or Mini NES, which has received a myriad of responses from hobbyists. The emulator comes stocked with 30 classic games programmed directly into the device. Replica controllers are also available for sale and compatibility with Wii controllers is an option. In case you didn't know, the NES Mini comes with a HDMI cable for connectivity to modern TV's and will not be able to play NES cartridges.

Responses have varied from cautious optimism to bitter curmudgeonry. Personally, I'm excited for the product itself, as it will introduce the love of retro gaming to a broader audience. What truly makes me the most optimistic is the domino effect this could have for Nintendo to create future versions of the emulator, and expand it to other consoles like the Super Nintendo and N64. I was born into the SNES age, a time where the graphics race was in full steam and Nintendo had competition from Sega and eventually Sony causing them to focus on software to fuel their success. I was fortunate to see many of the company greatest titles come to market while I was a kid. Needless to say, I spent much of my childhood "free time" playing some of the best video games to ever have existed. Twenty years later, I still have these original games but many gamer lost, sold or donated their games years ago and are longing for an easy and cost-effective way to enjoy these classics. This console is perfect for nostalgic gamers who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars and many hours collecting the original titles.
